Sodexo delivers healthy and delicious school meals based on the USDA’s nutrition guidelines so that students are engaged and ready to learn in school. All meals include a variety of fresh fruit and vegetable choices, and a variety of chilled non-fat or low-fat milk.
The USDA has granted a nationwide waiver allowing school districts to offer free breakfast and lunch to ALL students through December 31, 2020, or until funds run out. Urbana City Schools already has a breakfast program in place that allows all students to eat a free breakfast everyday. Beginning on Monday, September 14, 2020, all students, regardless of meal status eligibility, will receive one free breakfast and one free lunch everyday, whether they are eating in our cafeterias or learning virtually. Meals must meet the required guidelines in order to be free of charge. Extra entrees and a la carte items will be available to purchase with cash in our cafeterias.
Additionally, this extension is scheduled to end on 12/31/20, but could end sooner. If you have not already done so, make sure that you complete the 2020-21 Free and Reduced Price Meal Application so that it is in place before the USDA meal waiver runs out. Also note that the USDA waiver does not waive your student school fees. The student school fees can only be waived through Free Meal Application processing or Direct Certification Processing. If you have questions, please contact the district's Food Service Dept. at 937-653-1427.
